Introducing Google Gemini?
You may have noticed that your Google searches have started to change. This is because of Google Gemini. Gemini is beginning to spread throughout the Google system, from Google Search itself to the Google Pixel phones. In the blog, we are going to share with you our thoughts and keep you up to date with Google’s latest technology.
What is Google Gemini?
In its simplest terms. Google Gemini is a brand-new AI-powered assistant made by Google. The aim is to make everyone’s life easier and more productive using AI, and Google wants to be the leading brand in that field. It is integrated with Google Cloud and Google Workspace and is available as a mobile app or online if you search gemini.google.com. Previously, we had Google Bard, but this is now called Gemini. Google rebranded Bard to Gemini in early 2024. Gemini is built on top of the same technology as Bard, but it is more advanced and has many new features.
What can Google Gemini do?
I think the best way to find out what Google Gemini can and can’t do is to ask it. So we asked Google Gemini this question. “Hi Gemini, please can you give me a list of things you can and can’t do?” and here is the response.

In simple terms, Google can do research for you, write copy, answer your questions, plan events, help make plans, summarise videos or articles, and generate images. Gemini has lots of capabilities and is only likely to grow every month. There are no limits on what Gemini could do for you in the future. Below is a statement from Google giving their thoughts on Gemini.
“Gemini is the result of large-scale collaborative efforts by teams across Google, including our colleagues at Google Research. It was built from the ground up to be multimodal, which means it can generalise and seamlessly understand, operate across and combine different types of information including text, code, audio, image and video.”
The versions of Google Gemini
Similar to ChatGPT, there are multiple models available. Google Gemini & Gemini Advanced. One of the main differences between Gemini and the advanced version is access to Gemini 1.5 Pro. This is Google’s next-generation AI model, which includes exclusive features not available in the free version.
It’s far more capable of logical reasoning, analysis, coding, and creative collaboration, allowing you to complete more complex tasks, or so Google says anyway. To get Gemini Advanced, you need to upgrade to the Google One AI Premium plan, which is currently free for the first month but is £18.99 every month after that. This also allows you to get Gemini in Gmail and Docs, plus some other features sold by Google like Fitbit Premium and Nest Aware.
Google Gemini VS ChatGPT
The big question on everyone’s mind is which is best. Google Gemini or ChatGPT. Chat was released on 30 November 2022, which is nearly 2 years ago now. Whereas Google Gemini was only updated this year, even though Google Bard had been around a little longer. To state their case, Google did lots of rigorous training and testing on the AI to see what its capabilities are and how it compares to other AI chatbots like Chat. Here is what we found.
They found that Gemini Ultra’s performance exceeded the current state-of-the-art results on 30 out of the 32 academic benchmarks used in the large language model (LLM) model development. They also found that, with a final score of 90.0%, Gemini Ultra is the first model to outperform human experts on Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU). This is a combination of 57 different subjects like math, languages, science, history, law, ethics, etc.
When looking at a comparison between the scores Gemini received compared to ChatGPT, there isn’t much between them, with only around a 5% difference between the scores. However, on the 18 tests done, ChatGPT only beat Gemini in one area (Responding to everyday tasks). In every other test done by Google, Gemini came out on top. Below are a few of the scores and tests done. Credit to Google for the figures.
Name: – Google Result – ChatGPT result
Challenging multi-step tasks: – 83.6% – 83.1%
Basic maths: 94.4% – 92.0%
Complex Maths: 53.2% – 52.9%
Python code generation: 74.4% – 67.0%
Speech Translation:: 40.1% – 29.1%
Video Captions: 67.7% – 56.0%
So the only real standouts are when it comes to audio and video. Google Gemini is ahead of ChatGPT in those fields. This might have to do with the Google Pixel phone.
Google Pixel 9
You may be wondering why we are talking about a Google phone. Well, the main reason is the AI features of the phone. Similar to Siri or Alexa. Google now has Gemini installed on the phone, meaning you can easily access Gemini anywhere on your phone by simply pressing the power button. This makes AI even more accessible than it was before.
Some other features that Google Pixel has using AI include:
Powerful photo editing tools
Custom weather reports
Pixel Studio
Pixel Screenshots/C/CCall Notes
Pixel Watch 3 / Pixel Buds Pro 2
Google Position Zero
Now that you understand Google Gemini and how Google is using this AI within its devices and online. You can understand Position Zero easily. So Google Position Zero has been around for almost 5 years now. However, some people either haven’t realised this is what it is or have just not seen it at all.
What is Position Zero?
Position zero is simply a direct answer to your question that you have searched on Google. Position 0 will be directly displayed at the top of your page. Also known as (SERPs), this means the users don’t need to click on a different website or URL to find the answer they are looking for, as Google Gemini technology will display the answer for you straight away, with the ability to expand the answer further.
Another name for this area is the “Answer Box” or “Featured Snippet.” Position zero is so called simply because it is the highest result in the natural search results, giving you what Google thinks is the best answer to your question. Whether it is right or wrong will remain to be seen.
You may not have realised, but you have been using position 0 for years; it’s only now that it has started to look a little different. Below is an example of position 0 in text form, then in table bullet points.

Showing you a range of different ways psotion0 is currently used. But you may be thinking, what does position 0 look like now? Well, you will see the above images throughout your search, as these are still part of Google’s plan to help shorten users’ time looking for the answers to their questions. But below is an example of the new Google position 0.
How will this affect SEO?
Well, one way this could affect SEO is that website owners will likely start to see a drop in clicks to their website as Google introduces position 0 into more of its search queries. Currently, only around 12% of all the content online is covered by search. And users have already seen slight drops in their website views. But this is only likely to increase over time as Google position 0 answers more questions for the user.
So how can the marketing community benefit from this? Well, although you might think, why should we keep posting content when nobody is going to read it? Well, this just isn’t true. Google has to get the information from somewhere, and you want the content shown in position 0 to be yours. So how do you achieve this?
Currently, the best way to get your content on position 0 is through creating existing and useful content for the users. users. Follow the Google EEAT procedure to create a website that is good for the user.
E: Experience; Quick load speeds and mobile responsiveness; low bounce rates below 50%
Expertise: 1250–1500 words for your blog copy, and don’t gate content; avoid using AI content at all costs.
Authority: Have a high domain authority; show Google you are the best website for them to show.
Trustworthy: have reviews on your website and show Google you are trustworthy; don’t have broken links or random spam sites linking to you.
Overall, Google Gemini, in our opinion, is likely to be the future of everything. Google phones will become more popular; more users will be using Google to find answers to their questions. Everything is pointing towards the dominance of Google in the area. If you have any questions about this or need help, we are always happy to help you.
