A step-by-step guide to boosting business performance in 2022.

There’s no escaping the fact that the last couple of years have been challenging for us all. And, besides the personal issues that the pandemic has brought to the fore, it has been particularly difficult for businesses.

Virtually every sector has been affected by multiple hurdles to overcome from a dramatic drop in business to changed working practices ranging from 100% home working to a more hybrid approach.

We hope we’re not being premature in suggesting that the worst may soon be over. After all, if the Covid pandemic has shown us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. But if we are past the worst now could be the time to look forward again. A new year is also the ideal time for businesses to start planning for just how they are going to drive themselves forward and become even stronger entities in the future.

It might sound like a daunting process. But, by taking the right steps and choosing the best partners, anything could be possible. So, first, let’s examine the steps.

    1. Define your goals

It may sound obvious, but it’s surprising just how many businesses press ahead either without having any specific goals or having too many to be realistically achievable. So, it’s worth spending some time working out between three and five goals that you want to achieve in the next twelve months. It helps if these can be quantifiable and measurable – otherwise, how will you be able to see if they’ve been achieved?

You should also organise these goals in order of priority. This will allow you to give more focus to the more important ones as well as to differentiate between what will be short-term wins and others that might take longer to achieve.

    2. Create a plan

Once the goals have been outlined, it’s time to scope out how they’re going to be achieved. This will include listing the specific steps to be taken as well as setting out a timetable for achieving them. If any are going to need investment, then a budget should also be set.

    3. Pick the right people

Who are the people, both internally and externally who are going to make things happen? Choosing the right team from amongst your employees and engaging external suppliers who can deliver is essential.

Whether you’re choosing staff or suppliers, it’s vital that you both share and understand your objectives as well as the organisation’s culture and ethos. In the case of third-party companies, check out their track record and ask to see similar business transformations that they’ve carried out for clients in the past.

    4. Monitor the activity and the results

Ultimately, you’re going to need to monitor the progress and results that are being achieved, some of the goals will be measurable as “complete” or “ongoing.” Others are going to be more quantifiable such as percentage increases in turnover or profit. It’s also an innovative idea to set milestones along the way to help track how the plans are progressing. This interim feedback will even help you to refine and improve your efforts to reach your business goals.

How Cefar’s business systems can help

Every year a number of businesses come to us with a request to help them perform better in some way. One of the most effective ways that we’ve achieved this has been through creating bespoke business systems for them.

The scope of these is huge, ranging from refining operations management to transaction processing and from agile management to helping to facilitate continuous improvement.

Now that the future is looking more and more like it will be a combination of home and hybrid working for many businesses, we believe that many aspects of our systems are set to become more vital than ever before. As employees are scattered across various locations and business priorities change, our systems can function as the glue that helps link everyone, and everything, together.

The systems themselves can be designed to do as much, or as little, as you need them to. But one aspect that clients especially value is when transaction processing is included as part of the package. And, generally, the knowledge that businesses can continue to work effectively, securely, and efficiently via VPNs provides them with great peace of mind, not to mention improved results.

    Why bespoke is best

It’s true that there are many “off-the-shelf” business systems out there. But every business is unique, with its own needs and priorities. By investing in a bespoke system designed precisely around its exact requirements, the return on that investment is certain to be greater.

This is especially true as there are generally several elements of ready-made systems that are never needed at all. However, with a tailor-made system, it can be created to be leaner and more efficient, doing all you need it to do, without any unnecessary extras.

The likelihood is that you already have some systems in place and one that has been developed specifically for you will also be able to dovetail very neatly with them – which can’t always be said of more generic approaches.

    Our track record

Cefar also comes to you with a considerable track record of success for clients in a number of very different sectors. For example, we have worked with Arla Foods, one of the world’s top dairy producers, to create a system to streamline and enhance their Continuous Improvement initiative. We have also worked alongside telecoms giant EE to deliver an enhanced management system which started to deliver results almost immediately.

In each case, the first thing we did was to really get to understand the businesses involved, the ways that they work and the challenges that they face. It’s only through getting this deep understanding that we can create systems that are fit for purpose.

So, if you’d like to discover how we can help to achieve your business goals into 2022 and beyond, get in touch today.

Then we’ll arrange an initial meeting and tell you a great deal more about how we can do it.
